2007-2008 Goals and Objectives
Board of Education Mission Statement 2007-2008 School Year The mission of the Hillside Public Schools is to ensure that all students at all grade levels achieve the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and make connections to real-world success. We are committed to strong parent-community-school partnerships, providing a safe, engaging, and effective learning environment, and supporting a comprehensive system of academic and developmental support that meets the unique needs of each individual.
Superintendent of Schools & District Goals
2007-2008 School Year
- Education To continue to improve instruction and to raise student achievement.
- Labor Relations To facilitate negotiations of fair and responsible collective bargaining agreements.
- Finance To prepare an annual budget for 2008-2009 that meets the needs of our children and our community..
- Community and Government Relations To work with board members to foster communication with external policy makers.
- Buildings & Grounds To seek ways to continue to improve school facilities.
- Administration To successfully coordinate the Department of Education's NJQSAC monitoring of schools and the district office.
Board of Education Goals by Committee
2007-2008 School Year Finance Committee:
- To provide effective oversight to the 2007-2008 budget and prepare a budget for 2008-2009 that meets educational and facility needs.
- To sponsor focus groups to have conversations about budget development and to hold follow-up meetings with key commuicators to inform them about the proposed budget.
- To investigate possible grant writing services for specific grant applications.
- To gain a greater understanding of finacial reports
Buildings & Grounds Committee & Long Range Planning Committee:
- To gain NJDOE approval for a multi-year facilities plan.
- To develop plans for making our schools handicapped-accessible.
- To review the status of possible future school sites.
- To include within the food program more special, promotions, and themes.
Education Committee:
- To review the progress of students as they move from grade to grade.
- To sponsor gang-prevention programs for parents and students.
- To expand the number of pre-k sections.
- To continuously and systematically seek out partnerships that will raise educational achievement throughout the district.
Labor Relations Committee:
- To bring to the whole board by June 30 tentative collective bargaining agreements with all employee groups that are fair and respnsible to both taxpayers and employees.
- To include board members experienced in negotiating in the bargaining process.
- To review the criteria for the recruitment and evaluation of athletic coaches.
- To provide more assistance to guide principals toward success.
Community and Government Relations Committee:
- To organize and/or participate in key community events and outreach initiatives.
