Concert Band
BAND 1-4 (Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 - 5 credits)
Open College & Prep School course
Recommended prerequisite: Basic understanding of a band instrument (see below) and ability to read music or enrollment in Performing Arts Preparatory School.
Class requires after-school performances for Winter and Spring Concert and a handful of community events including graduation. Attendance is required and is part of the grade for this class. Homework will be to practice instrument a minimum of 30 minutes, 3 days/week.
Students must play one of the following - flute/piccolo, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone, tuba, string bass, percussion/drums. Please note that instruments from the violin family (other than the bass), piano and guitar are not needed in this ensemble. Students do not need to own or rent their own instrument, although it is highly recommended.
This course continues the development of each student's instrumental skills and allows for the continued growth of musicianship. Focus will be placed on both technical development and traditional/Western concert band repertoire; the music is primarily "Classical" in style.
Expectations:
Attend every class on time
Bring instrument, music, and pencil
No eating or drinking in class
Be quiet, no playing or talking, unless asked to play
Put instrument and music away after rehearsal
Certain supplies like reeds and drumsticks will need to be purchased
Grading Policy for 1st & 3rd MP:
Class Participation = 35%
Quizzes = 65%
Grading Policy for 2nd & 4th MP:
Class Participation = 35%
Quizzes = 35%
Concert Grade = 30%
