Piano I
PIANO I (Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 - 5 credits)
Open College course
Course is designed for student to learn the piano at his or her own level through an individualized program. Course will be taught in Keyboard Lab and is limited to 16 students per class.
Summary:
The majority of this class will focus on learning the musical skills necessary to play the piano. This will include proper fingering, scales, and repertoire tailored to each student's level of proficiency. Students will also study music theory incorporating basic notation and how to read music.
Expectations:
Attend every class on time
Bring music handouts, pencil, and notebook.
No eating, drinking, or gum in class
Practice quietly during class time
Turn piano off and place headphones on music stand at end of class
Practice at home or after school as needed
Grading Policy for 1st and 3rd MP:
Class Participation = 35%
Quizzes = 65%
Grading Policy for 2nd and 4th MP:
Class Participation = 25%
Quizzes = 50%
Project = 25%
Projects:
2nd marking period students will play a track from a CD and give an oral presentation on a pianist of their choice. 4th marking period they will compose and perform an original composition for piano.
