🍂 Grade 3 Math Adventure: Our Thanksgiving Favorites! 🍗
This week, our third graders became real-world data collectors as they explored how to gather, organize, and display information using surveys, tallies, and bar graphs. To make the lesson meaningful (and fun!), students investigated a question everyone was excited to answer:
“What is your favorite Thanksgiving food: chicken, turkey, or ham?”
Students moved around the school with clipboards in hand, surveying DGTA Staff and recording responses using tally marks. Once all the data was collected, they worked together to turn their tallies into totals and create colorful bar graphs representing the class’s Thanksgiving favorites.
Through this activity, students learned how math helps us understand the world around us. They practiced essential skills like asking clear questions, interpreting data, and presenting information visually. Even better, they discovered that math can be interactive, social, and connected to everyday life—even holiday dinners!
Our Grade 3 mathematicians did an amazing job turning a simple question into meaningful data. Their bar graphs show not just numbers, but the power of curiosity and collaboration.
Great work, Mrs. Cesear and our Grade 3 Scholars!
