"Hillside Public Schools District is once again being recognized as part of New Jersey's growing effort to make college more accessible to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds! Hillside Public Schools District remains one of the standout districts from earlier grant cycles that helped shape the state's dual enrollment initiative. In the first two years of the program, Hillside Public Schools joined districts such as Burlington City, Orange, and Vineland in pioneering partnerships with accredited colleges and universities. These collaborations allowed students to take college-level courses while still in high school, earning credits toward a degree before graduation. According to the state, participating students across the initial seven districts, including Hillside, completed over 1,100 college courses and earned more than 3,500 credits, saving families an estimated $290,000 in tuition and fees! The results have positioned Hillside as a model for expanding access to higher education and bridging opportunity gaps for local students. Hillside Public Schools Superintendent Erskine R. Glover has previously credited the program with motivating students to take on more rigorous coursework and showing them that college is within reach, both academically and financially! Education leaders say they hope to build on the success of early adopters like Hillside by expanding the program statewide. Hillside Public Schools are apart of this vision, demonstrating how strong partnerships between public schools and higher education can open new doors for students and families alike!" - Credit to the Hillside Dispatch for the full article.
