Hillside Public Schools District in collaboration with @aaanortheast, and the Hillside branch of the NAACP (@naacp) welcomed Civil Rights Pioneer and Hero, Ruby Bridges (@rubybridgesofficial) to Hillside for an exciting day, and fireside chat! In 1960, six-year-old Ruby Bridges made history as the first African-American child to attend a previously all-white public school in New Orleans, Louisiana. This act of bravery was a pivotal moment in the American civil rights movement. Ruby Bridges was in Hillside, New Jersey to launch the annual "Walk to School Day" ceremonies that highlight the November 14th, Walk to School Day. Hillside Public Schools District celebrates and thanks Ruby Bridges for choosing Hillside to launch this year's event!
