Students wore pink and walked around the perimeter of the Hurden Looker school building. The event culminated with students lining up in the playground and forming the shape of a breast cancer awareness ribbon! Kindness Quest blends music and teamwork to explore awareness, empathy, and compassion. Students embark on an engaging laser journey that highlights the importance of community and friendship! They encounter the larger-than-life laser character Max Bravado, who brings learning to life with puzzles, games, and stunning optical illusions. Hillside High School students had an incredible day exploring the history of our nation in Philadelphia! Students, guided by Mrs. Vargas and teachers from ESL, the World Language Department, the History Department, and JROTC, visited the National Constitution Center, Independence Hall, and the Liberty Bell! Learning about the Founding Fathers and the creation of our country was truly inspiring.

On October 17th, 2024, the Academic Decathlon team visited the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium in Fort Hancock! The team learned about the importance of marshes, how the dunes help maintain the shores and the history of Sandy Hook. The students went shad fishing, which is a technique the Lenape used, in the river and caught hermit crabs, pike fish, shrimp, snails, and other fish along the river! They were able to explore the ocean side to collect shells and rocks. The field guide explained some of the items the students gathered such as sea glass, razor clam shells, and even a full-sized horseshoe crab! This is all to prepare the team for this year’s competition, which focuses on the environment and Climate Change!
