The program is an immersive, cross-cutting curriculum for students that provides hands-on learning! Congratulations to the Hillside High School Academic Decathlon team! The team came in fourth place in the Regional Competition, which took place on Saturday, February 1st, 2025 at West Windsor-Plainsboro South High School! Barry Louis received an Honorable Mention in Literature. Emmanuella Oluyomi received an Honorable Mention for Interview. Salimata Sy received a Bronze medal in Music. Jeremy Laryea received a Silver medal in Interview. Lastly, with seven medals is Pranay Talati, who received Bronze medals in Art, Science, Literature, Speech, and Interview; a Silver medal in Music; and a Gold medal in Economics! Benjamin Pilcik was made MVP of the team! Academic Decathlon Coaches Michael Mandy and Jacqueline Corritore would like to thank current and retired staff for volunteering at the event. This is the team's fifth year in a row going to the States Competition, which will take place on Saturday, March, 1st, 2025! Hillside Public Schools District had a massively successful World Read Aloud Day that consisted of Superintendent Glover, Hillside Board of Education President Ms. Best, @mayorvertreese, Union County Commissioner Chairwoman Lourdes Leon, Union County Commissioner Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded, @hillside_firefighters, @hillsidepolicenj, Hillside Public Schools Directors, Supervisors, Teachers, and Staff reading to students! The International Holocaust Remembrance Day, or the International Day in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, is an international memorial day held annually on January 27th that commemorates the victims of the Holocaust, which resulted in the genocide of one third of the Jewish peoples in Europe, along with countless members of other minorities by Nazi Germany between 1933 and 1945. January 27th was chosen to commemorate the date when the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army in 1945. The day remembers the killing of two-thirds of Europe's Jewish population and millions of others by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. It was designated by United Nations General Assembly resolution 60-7 on November 1st 2005 and has since been recognized in over 60 countries in various ways.
