Today, (6/13/2024), Ola Edwards Community School hosted its Iron Chef: Battle Pasta competition! This was the first time an Iron Chef Competition was held in an elementary school! 6th-grade students from Ola Edwards were the chefs, divided into 4 teams: A, B, C, and D, and they were tasked with creating the best pasta dish, utilizing ingredients provided by @maschiofood! Each dish was sampled and scored by a panel of adult judges (staff from Hillside Public Schools). Our chefs' classmates also joined the fun, entering the cafeteria to cheer and support their peers! Shoutout to our Food Services Department staff, @maschiofood, Superintendent Glover, Principal Davis, Vice-Principal Diggs, Ola Edwards staff, and the phenomenal students for making this contest a hit!

Students, Heloysa Da Silva, Yosmeiri Rodriguez, and Camila Duchi Padilla use paintbrushes to gently transfer nearly 70 Monarch caterpillars over to Swamp Milkweed within the Hillside High School Garden grounds! The gardens were inaugurated with an event day that invited the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes to mimic the four stages of the Monarch Butterfly, from the larvae stage to the Butterfly stage!

At Hurden Looker Elementary School, Ms. Craig's 6th-grade students invited Mrs. Lorelli’s 2nd-grade class to attend their Math Carnival! They had math game stations set up and Mrs. Lorelli’s students had to visit each station, play a math game, and they got to receive a prize ticket. At the end, students received prizes for participating in the math games!

Pre-K and Kindergarten students visited Hillside High School's Garden Club to tour the new Monarch Butterfly Gardens and participate in activities that mimic the life stages of the Monarch Butterfly! Students joined in storytime, yoga, nature hide-and-seek, squirming through wiggle tunnels and having an upside-down hangout session like a caterpillar, being wrapped up in and breaking out of a paper chrysalis, painting, planting seeds, getting face paint and making seed bombs. The high schoolers had a wonderful time hosting and leading the sessions! All the kids were equally excited to meet each other, teach, and learn about Monarch Butterflies and how to save them. Children received butterfly bookmarks and stickers and their classes were gifted with an English and Spanish copy of "Monarch, Come Play with Me!" A NJ Sustainable School Grant @sustainable_jersey funded this event! Thank you to all the teachers who made this event possible including our Garden Club advisors Mrs. Ambrose and Mrs. Comerchero!

Hillside High School Student Council (StuCo) attended the @NJASC Spring Awards Ceremony at Six Flags in Jackson, NJ! @hillsidestuco was awarded the Community Smile Award, in recognition of their work to improve the school community and beyond, and the State Charity Award, in recognition of their donation in the amount of $1,000 to the NJASC 2023 State Charity @HugsForBrady.
