This past weekend the Hillside High School track team had ten athletes advance to the group championship: Mcnaully Erminal, Kenneth Shaw, Chibugo Nwso, Solomon Dunham , Kris Killen, Nora Kissi, Jaydeen Batchelor, Divine Clark, Shadrack Sanelus, Yverson Alexander The Comets Had three sectional champions! Last night (2/8/2024), Hillside Innovation Academy (H.I.A.) hosted its information Session for incoming 7th and 8th-grade students! The Hillside Innovation Academy Board Room was packed with parents and potential students, as well as current H.I.A. students, who spoke on all of the offerings H.I.A. presents. 5th-grade students in Ms. Crisanaz's class at Hurden Looker Elementary School recently participated in a V-Lab with Students2Science! This week's V-Lab centered on the Candy Color Wheel and Mixing and Separating Colors. Students explored the relationships between primary and secondary colors as they blended and separated them using a variety of techniques. Today (2/7/2024) was World Read Aloud Day! Hillside Public Schools District had a massively successful World Read Aloud Day that consisted of Hillside Board of Education Members, Union County Commissioners, @hillside_firefighters, @hillsidepolicenj, Superintendent Glover, Hillside Public Schools Supervisors, Teachers, and Staff! Shoutout to our Hillside Comets basketball team, securing a victory over Rahway (2/6/2024) in an awesome game!

Hurden Looker Elementary School's 4th grade students competed in the World Wide Math Academics Cup Competition! Over 250 schools and over 8000 students participated in this competition. Hurden Looker went as high as 6th place by the end of the school day but was knocked back to 11th place by the evening (Some schools continued to play after hours). Regardless, Hillside Public Schools is incredibly proud of our Hurden Looker students!

We are thrilled to share the exciting news about the recent achievement of our Girls Rock Science Club at Deanna G. Taylor Academy (DGTA). Today, our girls showcased their innovation, teamwork, and engineering skills as they embarked on a thrilling project using the Engineering Design Process to create zipline racers! The girls dived into the creative process enthusiastically, starting by sketching their designs and collaborating effectively as a team. It was truly inspiring to witness their dedication and determination throughout the project. Their hard work paid off, and the girls achieved success with their zipline racer prototypes. This achievement highlights the girls' ability to apply engineering principles and underscores the importance of teamwork and collaboration in solving challenges. Congratulations to the Hillside High School Academic Decathlon team for making it to the State Competition! The team won 8 medals and came in fourth in the Regional Competition! The State Competition is on March 2, 2024!
