Today (4/7/2025), Mr. Skelton was very proud to welcome Hillside High School Class of 2012 graduate and Orthopedic Surgery Resident, Dr. Jomar Ayree, to speak with Mr. Skelton's Principles of Biomedical Science class. Dr. Ayree is currently working at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and will be at UCLA Medical Center in the fall! Dr. Ayree spoke with students about the journey to medicine and the many challenges he faced, as well as the accomplishments he has had as a Hillside student through medical school and beyond! The second annual Autism Awareness and Acceptance Family Fun Day took place on Saturday, April 5th, 2025! This event was a massive success, and the turnout was amazing! There was a petting zoo, bouncy houses, face painting, broritos (@broritosoft), a scream truck (@streamtruck), a bubble show, and more! Shout out to the Student Support Services Department, Ms. Taylor, Ms. Williams, Ms. Maris, all of our student support services staff, Superintendent Glover, students, families, and the Hillside Board of Education! The second "Brothers Bonding with Books and Basketball" session was this past Saturday, April 5th, 2025! The turnout of students was even larger than in our first session! At W.O.K. Middle School, in Language Arts with Ms. Awad, and Ms. Cheung, students studied the gruesome, yet true story of Phineas Gage which was used to teach students about brain science! As the final project, W.O.K. Scholars created a 2D or 3D model of a brain, along with a guide to further their understanding! Additionally, students in other Language Arts classes were able to view, critique, and vote on their favorite brain! On Friday, March 21st, 2025, W.O.K Middle School students attended the 17th Kean University (@keanuniversity) Human Rights Conference! After the conference, they went into the Liberty Hall Academic Center (LHAC) galleries and viewed an exhibit of art from South Africa! Students also went into the Kean archives where they engaged in historical artifacts relating to several events in American History and Hillside in particular!
