Hurden Looker Elementary School's 4th grade students competed in the World Wide Math Academics Cup Competition! Over 250 schools and over 8000 students participated in this competition. Hurden Looker went as high as 6th place by the end of the school day but was knocked back to 11th place by the evening (Some schools continued to play after hours). Regardless, Hillside Public Schools is incredibly proud of our Hurden Looker students!

We are thrilled to share the exciting news about the recent achievement of our Girls Rock Science Club at Deanna G. Taylor Academy (DGTA). Today, our girls showcased their innovation, teamwork, and engineering skills as they embarked on a thrilling project using the Engineering Design Process to create zipline racers! The girls dived into the creative process enthusiastically, starting by sketching their designs and collaborating effectively as a team. It was truly inspiring to witness their dedication and determination throughout the project. Their hard work paid off, and the girls achieved success with their zipline racer prototypes. This achievement highlights the girls' ability to apply engineering principles and underscores the importance of teamwork and collaboration in solving challenges. The Girls Rock Science Club at DGTA continues to empower our students, fostering a passion for STEM fields and encouraging them to explore their potential!

On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, The Hillside High School J.E.T.S. (Junior Engineering & Technology Society) students participated in the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey's High School Challenge! Our engineering students were tasked with designing/building a Catwalk robot for the Lincoln and Holland Tunnel! Hillside Public Schools is incredibly proud of our students, and a special thanks goes out to Ms. Ebong for leading the J.E.T.S. throughout the competition. On the morning of January 31, 2024, W.O.K. Middle School 8th graders were treated to a High School introductory assembly! Hillside High School Counselor Dr. McCoy led the presentation, speaking to the W.O.K. 8th graders about what to expect in High School, including the importance of grades, and various activities to be involved in! Hillside High School students from various organizations also spoke to our middle schoolers to speak on behalf of what to expect in the next chapter of their lives. On Saturday, January 27, 2024, the Hillside High School Academic Decathlon team participated in the Regional Competition against multiple schools from central New Jersey. The team has been studying the concept of technology as seen in different fields, such as Literature, Science, and Economics. The event consists of seven multiple-choice tests, a speech, an essay, and an interview. To prepare, the team bonded on Thursday and Friday by taking practice tests, practicing interview and speech skills, and learning from one another. A special thank you to Mr. Emenaka for tutoring the team in Geometry and Differential Calculus. We also would like to thank our teachers Ms. Agoglia, Mrs. Tenreiro, Ms. Ullrich, and Mrs. Young for volunteering their time on Saturday to help judge the competition! The team will get the results later in the week!

The Barclays was home to a Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) Panel and Fair, including panelists from iHeartMedia, and the NBA!
