The International Holocaust Remembrance Day, or the International Day in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, is an international memorial day held annually on January 27th that commemorates the victims of the Holocaust, which resulted in the genocide of one third of the Jewish peoples in Europe, along with countless members of other minorities by Nazi Germany between 1933 and 1945. January 27th was chosen to commemorate the date when the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army in 1945. The day remembers the killing of two-thirds of Europe's Jewish population and millions of others by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. It was designated by United Nations General Assembly resolution 60-7 on November 1st 2005 and has since been recognized in over 60 countries in various ways. Today, January 24, 2025, Kean University @keanuniversity held its inaugural Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration hosted by the Faith-Based Institute of Public Policy! The special occasion brought "faith leaders, young leaders. and community members from diverse backgrounds" together to honor Dr. King's vision! Construction of Hillside Public Schools District’s Deanna G. Taylor Academy Modular Addition has been completed! On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the New Wing's official grand opening/ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Deanna G. Taylor Academy! Hillside Public Schools Board of Education members, administrators, principals, partners, staff, Hillside township dignitaries, and family members of Deanna G. Taylor were all in attendance for the marvelous event! A special thank you to Superintendent Glover, Hillside Board of Education President Best, Bishop Assemblyman Reginald Atkins, Principal of Deanna G. Taylor Academy Mr. Graham, Vice-Principal Budhu, the Office of the Superintendent, the Building and Grounds Department, the Technology Department, and Maschios Food Services! The 6,600-square-foot addition to Deanna G. Hillside Public Schools has a new student transport van equipped with a wheelchair lift! The new vehicle is a full-sized van equipped with a wheelchair lift and can accommodate 1 wheelchair and 7 additional passengers. This new vehicle will allow our district to transport students in wheelchairs without the additional cost of using a private contractor. The van will also be used for small group transportation related to school activities, in addition to student transport to and from school! Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day from Hillside Public Schools! On Saturday, January 18th, 2025, Hillside Public Schools District hosted its Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Program at Hillside High School. The program was amazing not only because of the exceptional performances by each of our schools' students, as well as the decorative artwork done by Hillside Innovation Academy students, but also because of the high positive energy of the audience! The auditorium was full of parents, Hillside community members, Hillside Board of Education members, Hillside Town Council members, families, staff, and more! Great work to all of our students, including Hillside High School Senior Sarah Auguste who was the Mistress of Ceremonies for the event! Shout out to Superintendent Glover, Hillside Board of Education President Ms. Best, U.S. Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, Hillside High School Vice-Principals Mrs. Bartholomew and Mr. Emenaka, who all spoke at the ceremony. Islamic Heritage Month, designated for January each year in New Jersey, was established following Governor Phil Murphy’s signing of a joint resolution (SJR105/AJR194) on April 29, 2023. It recognizes the diverse contributions of Muslim Americans to arts, culture, education, politics, and science. It also aims to foster greater understanding and unity by highlighting Islamic traditions and the role of Muslim Americans in building communities. The @scholastic R.E.A.L. Mentor Reading event took place today (1/10/2025)! Hillside Public Schools' staff members, Hillside High School students, Hillside Policemen, Firefighters, Hillside Board of Education members, and more, served as mentors! Our mentors traveled to A.P. Morris Early Childhood Center, and all the Hillside Elementary Schools to read to our young students, helping to instill a love of reading in our students!
